A cultural harmony program held in Shanti Niketan (the peace land), dream of Rabindranath Tagore.

Great Thinker Tagore had vision of setting an educational centre which will blend the traditions with modernity. With this vision, he started his School and University during his lifetime to facilitate people of India to discover their own history, culture art and educational system which is multicultural. Tagore believed that university means universality. So according to Him his university will lay foundation for peace and harmony in the country as well as in the Globe. Having an Intercultural Iftar Party in the land of legendary Tagore was more meaningful.

A galaxy of Intellectuals, Scholars and Media persons were present; Prof. Dr. Rajat Kanta Ray, Vice Chancellor, Registrar, Famous Historian Prof. Barun De and many other known Scholars were among them.

Prof. Dr. Rajat Kanta Ray, Vice Chancellor stated that peace and harmony is the main objective of Vishva Bharati University and he was very pleased with such attempts of Indialogue Foundation to promote peace and harmony in the society.

Prof. Barun De mentioned the need of the day for harmony among different cultures. He stated that media and today’s intelligentsias are stressing more on clash of civilizations than harmony of them. He has looked upon historical facts and stated that all over history there has been harmony of cultures and civilizations. So claims of Huntington’s theory are baseless and being popularized by media and dominant cultures. He has concluded that it is the duty of all of us to prove to the world that harmony of different cultures and civilizations is possible and this will leave a peaceful world to coming generations.

Prof. Dr. Goutam Goushal stated that individuals should first find inner peace than they can spread peace to their environment.

Prof. Asha Mukherjee, professor of comparative religious studies, stated that dialogue is must to resolve clashes and misunderstanding among people of different faiths.

Prof. Mohan Singh, professor of music, stated that everybody enjoys musics of other cultures. So music is universal and can help different cultures to develop understanding and harmony with each other.

Hanifi Oguz, Regional Director, Indialogue Foundation has talked about the mission and vision of Indialogue Foundation and he expressed his gratitude to guests present in the function.

Program was covered in media very extensively.
